It is subordinate to the federal ministry of economics and technology (bmwi).
  One of the main problems in Yemen is the scarce availability of water resources. Protection and sustainable use of water resources as well as environmental geological aspects are at present the main subject in technical cooperation between BGR and Yemen.
  BGR has provided advisory services to the national water resources authority (NWRA) with regard to national water quality control. The project on training in geological and thematic mapping carried out in cooperation with the Yemeni geological survey and mineral resources board (GSMRB) has put its focus on the preparation of groundwater and environment related maps. Advisory services of the ongoing BGR-project are aimed at supporting the implementation of an integrated water resources management (IWRM) in Yemen together with capacity building of relevant institutions.
